If you’ve been following me for awhile you know that I rarely use combs to detangle my hair. With that being the case, I need conditioners that pack an extra punch in the slip and detangling department to help my fingers glide through my very curly and dense 4a hair. In no particular order, below I’ve listed my absolute favorite conditioners that I’ve encountered so far in my natural hair journey.
Trader Joe’s Tea Tree Tingle Conditioner $3.99 16oz & Trader Joe’s Nourish Spa Balance Moisturizing Conditioner $2.99 16.9 oz
Both of these conditioners are awesome. Both are thick, have really great slip and leave my hair soft and easy to detangle. The Tea Tree Tingle is all natural and packed full of organic ingredients. The Nourish Spa conditioner is also packed with lots of great organic ingredients as well, but it does contain two parabens near the end of the ingredient list. This may be a concern for those of you that use the Curly Girl method, but I feel that it’s too good of a conditioner to pass up. These two conditioners are a detangling staple in my wash day regimen.
Shea Moisture Organic Raw Shea Butter Restorative Conditioner $9.99 12 oz
I visited the Shea Moisture pop-up shop at the Bryant Park holiday market and picked up several bottles of this conditioner. I’d never tried it prior to purchasing it, but I’m glad I decided to give it a go. It’s a great detangler and moisturizes my thirsty mane. This conditioner can be used as a leave-in or rinse out conditioner. I’ve used them both ways, but I prefer to leave it in because it’s more cost effective and it leaves my hair very moisturized. I normally use this for braidouts, which leaves me with lusciously soft hair for days.
Kinky Curly Knot Today- $11.99 8 oz.
This. is. an. awesome. detangler. I seriously don’t know what else to say. This is like liquid gold sprinkled with bits of goodness. Kinky Curly Knot Today is all natural and works wonderfully on my hair. I normally use this for wash and gos partnered with Kinky Curly Curling Custard.
The newest conditioner that I’ve decided to add to this list exceeds the $3-$12 range of products contained within this post, but I felt that I’d be doing all of you a disservice by not including it.
That was a serious lead in and here’s the conditioner. . . .
Koils By Nature Moisturizing Shealoe Leave-in Conditioner- $22.00 12 oz.
Yes, it’s a tad pricey, but you’re paying for quality ingredients and supporting a small, black owned business, which is worth its weight in gold to me.
I first discovered this yummy leave-in conditioner in My Brown Box. My hair is very coily and dense and this conditioner cut through my coils like a hot knife through butter. It’s fairly light weight, but packs a major punch. If the price point of the full-sized bottle is a little uncomfortable there are 2 0z. sample sizes sold on the Koils By Natue website for $6.00 each and there are also $25.00 sample packs that include the shealoe leave-in conditioner too.
What are some conditioners that you use that detangle well and offer great slip?
