Stepping Aside

I’ve always tried to do everything myself for fear of things not being done “right”, but with age and experience this is something that I’m slowly getting over.  If I don’t have the expertise, time or energy to do something then I’ll hire or work with someone who does.

What prompted the shift?

Well, I’m starting to value time more than money.  More money can be earned, but once time is gone you can never get it back. . .EVER.  I’ve always known this, but this point was driven home to me when I spent a few hours cleaning my apartment a few weeks ago.  If you know me personally, you’ll know that I’m not very domestic.  Yes, I perform simply household tasks, but I do not find domestic tasks to be very enjoyable.

I’m seriously looking for a house husband.  If you know anyone, holla.

But on a more serious note, I came to realize that I needed to step aside and hire someone who had the time and energy to perform this particular task.

I sought out an apartment cleaning service.  Yes, a cleaning service.

The negative thoughts started to roll in. . . .

How lazy could you be?

It’s just a few hours, what’s the big deal?

But lemme tell you, I was on top of the world when I walked into a clean apartment.  I no longer second guessed my decision.

I needed to step aside and I’m glad I did.

I wanted to share that story because I’ve found that many people invest time and energy on tasks that they don’t have the desire to do.  We begrudgingly perform these tasks, which yields nothing more than subpar results and leaves you completely drained.

Having difficulty trying to replicate that flat twist updo after watching the YouTube tutorial after the umpteenth time?

Seek out a stylist.

Can’t get motivated to get rid of those extra pounds?

Seek out a trainer.

It’s ok to step aside.
