I conquered my first 5K ( 3.1 miles) at the end of August. This weekend I’ll be running another 5K and I’ll be running a five mile race at the end of the month.
I never would have thought I’d be writing that sentence, but running my first 5K was an enlightening experience.
I’ve made running part of my routine and found that it’s a great stress reliever, energy booster, an enjoyable challenge and a fulfilling activity.
Was I nervous when I signed up for the five mile race? Of course, I second guessed my will power and my body. Would I be able to complete a five mile race without stopping? Would I have the will power to keep on going? Yes and yes. As a novice runner I definitely have doubts, but I didn’t them stop me.
Since embarking on this journey I’ve also discovered that running is a metaphor for life. There will be times that you’ll be presented with obstacles and you have to keep pushing through even though those obstacles may seem insurmountable. When you reach the other side you realize that it was well worth the journey and those obstacles that you were presented with made you much stronger.
Didn’t mean to get too deep, but that’s just something that I’ve been thinking about lately.
In the weeks leading up to the five mile race I’ll check in periodically. I’ll also post pictures and do a post on my second 5K. Until then, wish me luck!!!
